Mission

Research, Teaching, and Crop Introduction

The Trial Gardens at the University of Georgia evaluate the newest ornamental plants from top breeding companies worldwide. We are the “go-to” garden for testing plants for heat and humidity adaptability. We aim to focus on plant breeding and development, teaching, and outreach. We encourage industry professionals and home gardeners to see how plants perform in our variable southeastern climate. Data collected from our trials provide breeding companies with the information needed to successfully expand the palette of plant selections available to consumers in southern markets.

A lush on-campus retreat

Who says research can't be beautiful, too? Tucked away on south campus, our garden is a perfect place to escape and take a breather from the hustle-and-bustle of everyday life. We have shaded benches, a gazebo in the center of the garden, and nearby picnic tables. If you're visiting from out-of-town, beautiful and historic Athens, Georgia holds many hidden gems and a plethora of delicious restaurants to grab lunch or dinner. Whether you're a seasoned gardener, gardening newbie, or just want somewhere to relax, we welcome you at the trial gardens!
